2019: Group launches #PickupUrCard campaign, urges youth to shun violence

A group, Intellectual Patriotic Youth Forum (IPYF) has called on Nigerian youths to resist attempts by undemocratic politicians to engage them in election violence, thuggery and incitement ahead of the 2019 general elections.

The group, also launched a campaign to encourage eligible registered voters to pickup their permanent voters card (PVC) which will enable them to participate in voting during the 2019 elections.

In a statement by its National Secretary Ambassador Bello Lawan, obtained by DAILYFOCUS, the group advised politicians to abide by the campaign rules outlined by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

“It is our utmost concern that the well-being of Nigerians and continues sustainable coexistence of Nigeria as indivisible entity beyond 2019 General election, as Nigeria is bigger than any individual or political party, hence we deem it necessary to call on all individuals, groups, particularly political parties and political elite to be caution of their utterance as political campaign begins on 18th November, 2018 as declared by Independent National Electoral Commission INEC.

“Political parties must shun any form of hate speech, campaign of calumny and incitement capable of throwing our nation into disorder and unrest.

“The consequences of every crisis are often urge to recover in a short time hence any avoidable crisis must be avoided. At the same time we implore our youth to desist from any form of political rascality, reject thuggery engagement from undemocratic politicians so we can all have a peaceful general election.

“Our leadership shall continue to ensure all complimentary role to achieve free, fair and credible general election come 2019.

“Our members nation wide are by this publication directed to commence PVC pick up campaign tag #PickupUrCard to ensure more eligible voters get their card and partake in election as well as mobilize Volunteers as election observers to assist INEC towards having a smooth hitch free election,” the statement read.
