Music with a Message: Surebanty’s Powerful Voice

Surebanty’s music is a reflection of his passions, his values, and his vision for a better world.

Your new song talks about the struggles and pains of the average Nigerian. What inspired this direction?
This is simply because the struggle touches me myself, so I realise there is no better way I can express myself, express the struggle of people’s around having discovered whenever am in a garden of people, the only thing everyone including me talks about is just the hunger, the hardship, the fear of insecurities and so on that has made life uneasy than ever, so I realized the only better way to reach out or plead to the government and ask God for a divine intervention is through the only thing I know how to do best which is my music.

How has your experience as a science laboratory technologist influenced your music?
Hmmm I will say nothing compared to going to school because the only thing I have realized so far is that whenever I am doing a composition, been educated makes me see music writing in a different way,I see music like a medicine to wound in the body,so I make sure every of my lines has some positive things to do to humanity despite the fact I knew the music of nowadays doesn’t care about making sense any more but just any sort of flows either proper or improper but as long as it ryhmes and have a sweet sequence,so despite having know how to follow and understand this trend I stil try to make sense, for future purpose and for what I know music is actually meant for .

You’ve been in the industry for a while. How has your sound evolved over time?
Oh this is actually one of the major reason why i pause music for a long while, just to reflect, refresh, re set to a factory default, an opportunity to really study the trend instead of doing what I have been too used to, and also a chance to re develop or discover the new sound in me I am yet to discover over the years, to re brand and re package , in all areas talking about melody, rythm, composition and delivery which I am glad every one attest to, that I sound so different and recent in a different way to take over the game and create a new music empire .

Your last job was a cover of Marvin Gaye’s “Sexual Healing”. What drew you to this classic song?
This was just an inspiration from a classic evergreen sound the late legend Marvin gaye created which I have listened to all over and over, so one day I just realized let me do a cover of this sound to relevant it to today use , with the hope to keep alive the unforgettable classic sound which everyone said it was bomb with my African infusion, I am really proud I did that, it was a hit and still a hit.

You’ve launched your own label, Likadat Entertainment. What motivated this move?
Lakadat entertainment was carved from one of the name people gave me through one of music back then , so when I decide to create my own label I decide to use the name, but that was before I pause music for a while but with my coming back which I told people back then that I wil be coming back, so having reset to factory default I realized I have to come with everything new which has a new label name called AMANII music, that wil be the label under which I release this people struggle track and under which a particular coming back official snippet Wil be coming out soon.

Your single “Call Me Surebanty” introduced your philanthropic ethos. Can you elaborate on this philosophy?
my name Surebanty actually was carved out from my surname Osho, which while in polytechnic my fans add another prefix to it just to make it sound energetic with the way they feel about me which is Osho banty, so when I wanted pick a name I decided to use what people enjoy calling me and removed the O , at the beginning to make it sound easy for pronunciation, which is the Shurbanty, but at the long run because of my phylantrophic attitude to people around me at some point then ,they decided to change the name to SURE BANTY, just to buttress the fact that I am so sure in giving when ever they see me, so at a point later in life I felt the definition of this word worth using as music, to make people feel that whenever they see anyone that has the habit of giving he or she should be reffered to as SUREBANTY.

How do you balance your music career with your passion for helping others?
I realized biblically or Quiranically this is a must, because I feel with my believe that helping people is a must not particularly through a music avenue but to humanity no matter where you found yourself, to me I feel great in giving because I feel the Almighty God that provides for me freely wil be glad to see me doing the same in my own little way.

What’s next for Surebanty? Any upcoming projects or collaborations?
Yea like I mentioned a bit earlier presently, I have this new struggles of people track just released titled “” YEE”” to address the present situation in my own best way, after with a snippet of the official coming back of Surebanty showing my new styles Wil be dropping, and an another inspirational song titled PART TWO ,stil symbolising the second coming of Surebanty and indirectly telling people the irony of life in general.

How has your music been received by fans and critics since your comeback?
The comment has always been , Surebanty you sound different, you are in your own world , you are compare to no one,you are a genius.

How do you think your music can inspire change or make a positive impact on Nigerian society?
This is simply because no matter how I try to sing, melodise or so , I stil try to make sure I make sense so my music can be of some sort of healing or nerves calming to people at some point.

What message do you hope listeners take away from your latest release?
The message is just simple, the message is like a reminder to the Government that they should remember this wasn’t what they promised us, because it was there the agenda they promised to deliver that makes us vote for them despite even in the past things has not been so good but this is worst and has made everyone shouting YEE, which is the title of the song , YEE which literally means a sound someone gives when you are feeling pain, so all this is actually a true representation of my listeners mind to help them talk there mind to the government.
