Benue State Governor Approves Removal of SIEC Chairman

Makurdi — Benue State Governor, Rev Fr Hyacinth Alia, has approved the removal of Dr. John Chem from his position as Chairman of the State Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC). This decision follows a recommendation by the state House of Assembly, which cited poor judgment and actions that did not align with public interest as grounds for the removal.

In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Kula Tersoo, Governor Alia confirmed his acceptance of the Assembly’s resolution. The statement outlined that Dr. Chem’s decisions were deemed unsatisfactory and not in the best interest of stakeholders.

The governor has directed Dr. Chem to hand over his duties to the administrative secretary of the commission immediately.
