Reactions Follow Release of Controversial Cross-Dresser Bobrisky from Kirikiri Correctional Centre

Controversial social media personality Idris Okuneye, widely known as Bobrisky, has been released from the Kirikiri Correctional Centre in Lagos State after serving a six-month sentence. His release on Monday morning was met with a range of reactions from the public and online users.

A video posted on X (formerly Twitter) shows Bobrisky warmly greeting fans who had gathered to welcome him back. The cross-dresser was sentenced in April by Justice Abimbola Awogboro of the Federal High Court in Lagos for Naira abuse. Justice Awogboro’s ruling, which included no option of a fine, was intended to serve as a deterrent against the misuse of Nigeria’s currency.

Reactions on social media varied widely. User @toolzmoney questioned the reality of Bobrisky’s imprisonment, while @OloriSupergal jubilantly welcomed him back. Other users, such as @iamaleshinloye1, congratulated Nigerians, and @peace_igho remarked on Bobrisky’s seemingly refreshed appearance post-release.

Some comments reflected skepticism about the nature of Bobrisky’s incarceration. User @ehime24 suggested that Bobrisky’s time in prison may have been less harsh than expected, while @ChiomaChuka criticized the perceived disparity in legal consequences between Bobrisky and high-profile figures who have also been seen misusing the Naira.

Following his release, Bobrisky advised Nigerians to adhere to the country’s laws and respect the Naira. He warned against the practice of spraying money, emphasizing that even minor offenses related to currency could lead to imprisonment.

Bobrisky expressed gratitude towards friends and supporters who stood by him during his incarceration. He stated, “You have to follow the rules and abide by the laws. Don’t spray money, or you will become a landlord in Kirikiri. I’m really grateful to my friends and loved ones.”

His release continues to stir debate, highlighting ongoing concerns about the enforcement of currency-related laws and the treatment of celebrities in the Nigerian legal system.
