Nigerian Navy Personnel Arrested for Murder of Former Chief of Naval Staff’s Son

Abuja, Nigeria — Abdul Rasheed Muhammad, a Nigerian Navy personnel, has been apprehended in connection with the murder of Aminu Ibrahim, the son of former Chief of Naval Staff Vice Admiral I. I. Ibrahim (retd). Muhammad was paraded before the press on Wednesday by the Federal Capital Territory Commissioner of Police, Bennett Igweh.

According to Igweh, the incident occurred two weeks ago in the Maitama area of Abuja. Muhammad allegedly killed Aminu and stole his Prado SUV. The vehicle has since been recovered.

Igweh detailed the case, stating, “About two weeks ago, Aminu Ibrahim was robbed and killed, and his Prado SUV was taken. Abdul Rasheed Muhammad, a serving Nigerian Navy personnel, has confessed to the crime. I am pleased to announce that the stolen vehicle has been recovered.”

In his confession, Muhammad, who is stationed at the former Chief of Naval Staff’s residence, explained the circumstances leading to the crime. He recounted, “I work at the house. Aminu wanted to go out around 11:30 PM and requested security. I followed him with my gun. Along the way, he stopped to check his ATM, and I thought we were heading to a market or somewhere. When I exited through the other door, I shot him, took the car, and left. He did nothing to me; I killed him to steal his car.”

The police also paraded 94 members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) who were arrested following the deaths of two police officers on Sunday. Further details on this matter are expected to be released soon.
