Eguavoen Appoints New Assistants for Super Eagles’ AFCON Qualifiers

Uyo — Interim Super Eagles manager Augustine Eguavoen has announced the appointment of Fidelis Ilechukwu and Daniel Ogunmodede as his assistants for the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying matches against Benin Republic and Rwanda.

In a statement released on Monday by Ademola Olajire, the Director of Communications for the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), it was confirmed that Ilechukwu, the head coach of Enugu Rangers, and Ogunmodede of Remo Stars will be joining Eguavoen’s technical team for these crucial fixtures.

“Ilechukwu led the Flying Antelopes to victory in Nigeria’s elite division last season, while Ogunmodede’s Remo Stars secured a commendable second place,” Olajire said.

Joining Ilechukwu and Ogunmodede in the technical team are Tomaz Zorec, a fitness trainer from Slovenia; goalkeeper trainer Olatunji Baruwa; and match analyst Eboboritse Uwejamomere.

The Super Eagles are set to commence preparations in Uyo, with the team expected to arrive on Monday ahead of their match against the Cheetahs of Benin Republic. The fixture will take place at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium on Saturday at 5 p.m.

Following their encounter with Benin Republic, the Nigerian team will travel to Kigali on Sunday to face the Bees of Rwanda. The second qualifying match is scheduled for Tuesday at the Amahoro Stadium, kicking off at 2 p.m.
