Abuja — The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has summoned former Rivers State Governor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to answer allegations of anti-party activities. The summons comes amid growing tensions within the party.
PDP Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Ibrahim Abdullahi, announced the decision on Monday during an appearance on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily. Abdullahi revealed that Wike has been summoned to appear before the party’s disciplinary committee, led by Chief Tom Ikimi, following a series of complaints and petitions against him.
“We established two committees three weeks ago: one for reconciliation and the other for disciplinary actions. Nyesom Wike is among those summoned to face the disciplinary committee,” Abdullahi stated. “This committee will address the concerns regarding alleged sabotage and anti-party activities during the primaries.”
Abdullahi also criticized Wike’s recent remarks about igniting political conflict in states governed by PDP members. “Wike’s comments about ‘putting fire in their states’ are both disappointing and unacceptable. We did not anticipate such statements from him,” Abdullahi added.
The tension escalated after Wike, speaking at a PDP Congress in Port Harcourt on Saturday, threatened to create a political crisis in any PDP-governed state where governors attempted to interfere in the party’s affairs in Rivers State. Additionally, Wike expressed satisfaction with his role in the Bola Tinubu administration, despite facing criticism from within his party. He also made a provocative statement to those dissatisfied with his position, suggesting they “go and hug the transformer.”
The PDP disciplinary committee is expected to review the allegations and make recommendations regarding Wike’s standing within the party. The move reflects ongoing internal disputes and dissatisfaction among party members, highlighting the challenges facing the PDP as it navigates its internal conflicts.
