Abeokuta, Ogun State – The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State has cleared former Chairman of Ijebu East Local Government, Wale Adedayo, to participate in the party’s upcoming primaries for chairmanship aspirants. The primaries are scheduled for Saturday, September 7th.
This development was announced in a statement issued on Wednesday by the PDP’s Publicity Secretary, Afolabi Orekoya. According to the statement, the screening process involved hundreds of aspirants from the 236 Wards and 20 Local Governments across Ogun State, all of whom obtained the party’s nomination forms to contest in the upcoming Local Government Elections in November.
Orekoya highlighted that Chief Wale Adedayo, among others, was screened at the party’s secretariat in Abeokuta. Adedayo, who is seeking re-election as Chairman of Ijebu East Local Government, previously held the position but was impeached in August last year following allegations against Governor Dapo Abiodun. Adedayo had accused the governor of diverting N10.8 billion in local government funds, a claim that the state government vehemently denied as baseless.
The PDP has scheduled Thursday, September 5th, and Saturday, September 7th, for the Councillorship and Chairmanship Primary Elections, respectively, across the 236 Wards and 20 Local Governments in the state. The party has urged its members to participate peacefully in the primaries, encouraging them to elect the candidates of their choice.
Adedayo’s clearance marks a significant step in his political journey, as he aims to regain his former position in Ijebu East Local Government under the PDP banner. The upcoming primaries are expected to be a crucial determinant of his political future within the state.
