Nigeria Reaffirms Commitment to Sustainable Development Goals on 64th Independence Anniversary

As Nigeria celebrates its 64th independence anniversary, the Federal Government has reiterated its commitment to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as a driving force for national development. In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Sustainable Development Goals (SSAP-SDGs), Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, emphasized that the SDGs are crucial to addressing Nigeria’s current challenges and securing a prosperous future for all citizens.

Orelope-Adefulire highlighted that the SDGs, which address critical issues such as poverty, hunger, and inequality, are essential for fostering equitable growth in Nigeria. She stressed that these goals provide a framework for building a more sustainable and just society.

“As we celebrate our independence, it is a time to reaffirm our commitment to achieving these goals by 2030, ensuring that no Nigerian is left behind,” Orelope-Adefulire said in the statement.

In her role, Orelope-Adefulire has overseen initiatives focused on improving education, healthcare, and environmental sustainability across Nigeria. These programs are carried out in collaboration with various government ministries, private organizations, and civil society groups.

Additionally, Orelope-Adefulire called for increased cooperation among government bodies, the private sector, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to ensure the successful realization of the SDGs. She urged Nigerians to unite in the collective effort to achieve these global goals, which are integral to the nation’s long-term development.

The statement came as part of the government’s broader effort to align Nigeria’s growth trajectory with the SDGs and fulfill its global commitments.
