Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun emphasized the essential role of traditional rulers in promoting peace and unity, as well as driving the socio-economic development of the region.

During the Statutory meeting of the State Council of Obas held at the Obas’ Complex in Abeokuta, Abiodun urged these leaders to leverage their influence in support of government initiatives aimed at improving residents’ lives.

Represented by Ganiyu Hamzat, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Abiodun remarked that the Council of Obas is well-positioned to foster unity and enhance the cultural heritage of the state.

He encouraged the traditional rulers to engage in meaningful discussions during the council meetings to generate ideas that would benefit the community and enhance good governance.

Chairman of the Council and Olu of Yewaland, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle, expressed gratitude to Governor Abiodun for his commitment to the welfare of the traditional council, noting the delivery of the first set of utility vehicles. He called for the fulfillment of the remaining vehicle batch and the ratification of a new list of Obas for status upgrades.

The meeting also featured a presentation on the ‘Digiculture’ project by Dr. Temitope Olaifa, an Associate Professor at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta. She highlighted the importance of preserving the state’s cultural heritage and announced plans to develop an app to help interpret and promote local cultures, seeking the support of traditional rulers as custodians of these traditions.

Brigadier-General Alade Adedigba (rtd), the new Commandant of the Ogun State Security Network Agency (Amotekun Corps), praised the traditional rulers for their contributions to maintaining peace in their areas. He called for their cooperation in grassroots security efforts, reiterating Governor Abiodun’s commitment to ensuring the safety of all citizens.
