Popular Chicago rapper Lil Durk, born Durk Derrick Banks, is currently in custody at Broward County Jail facing serious federal charges, including a murder-for-hire plot.
His arrest, carried out by U.S. Marshals between late Thursday and early Friday, coincides with the indictment of five members of his Chicago-based crew, Only The Family (OTF), who are also implicated as co-conspirators in a murder-for-hire scheme in Los Angeles.
While it is unclear if Durk’s arrest is directly related to this investigation, the timing has garnered significant attention. Reports indicate that the charges against him are linked to a plot targeting the cousin of rapper Quando Rondo, who was killed in 2022. Investigators believe this alleged conspiracy may be retaliatory for the earlier murder of Chicago rapper King Von.
The five individuals associated with Durk’s music business were indicted just hours before his arrest. According to the Daily Mail, these charges include conspiracy to commit murder-for-hire, committing murder-for-hire resulting in death, and using a machine gun in a violent crime.
Lil Durk was arrested in Broward County, Florida, and is awaiting transfer to U.S. Marshals’ custody.
Despite these legal challenges, Lil Durk has made a significant mark in the music industry, collaborating with top artists like Drake and J. Cole. He won a Grammy for Best Melodic Rap Performance in 2024 for “Laugh Now Cry Later,” which peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard chart.
