Delta Police Neutralize Criminals in Gun Battle Along Ughelli Road
Operatives from the Commissioner of Police Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT) have killed two suspected kidnappers in a shootout during a raid on their hideouts along Ewheru-Patani Road in Ughelli Local Government Area of Delta State. The operation took place on October 28, following a tip-off based on credible intelligence.
Suspects Ambushed Police in Fierce Gun Battle
According to a statement released on Wednesday by the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Bright Edafe, the police team was ambushed by the suspects during the operation. A fierce gun battle ensued, leading to the injury of two of the suspected criminals. The suspects were rushed to the General Hospital in Ughelli for medical treatment but were later confirmed dead by doctors.
Weapons Recovered from Criminals’ Hideouts
During the raid, police recovered significant weapons, including a Beretta pistol with two rounds of live ammunition and an AK-47 rifle with six rounds of ammunition. The criminals’ hideout was also raided, where further evidence was gathered.
Suspects Linked to Kidnappings and Murders
Preliminary investigations revealed that the two suspects were allegedly responsible for a series of kidnappings and murders along the Warri-Sapele road, the Mosogar axis, as well as killings in Oghara and Ughelli. The police operation is part of ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal networks terrorizing the region.
