Max Air Confirms Kano Incident, NCAA Orders Runway Inspection

Kano, Nigeria – January 30, 2025 – Max Air has officially confirmed the incident involving one of its aircraft at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport on Tuesday night. A Max Air aircraft, registered 5N-MBD, carrying 53 passengers, experienced a nose landing gear tire burst upon landing at approximately 10:57 p.m. The flight originated in Lagos.

While the aircraft sustained damage, all 53 passengers and crew members were safely disembarked. Max Air commended its crew for their professional handling of the situation, ensuring the safety of everyone on board.

“We wish to inform the public that one of our aircraft experienced an incident upon landing in Kano yesterday,” the airline stated on its X (formerly Twitter) account.

The Kano airport runway was temporarily closed following the incident to allow for inspection and clearance. Max Air warned of potential flight delays on Wednesday due to the closure.The airline later confirmed that the aircraft had been removed from the runway as of 4:28 a.m.

“There were no injuries, and the aircraft has since been removed from the runway as of 04:28,” the statement added. “Our Max Air engineering team continues to demonstrate excellence in handling such situations. We will keep you informed on the status of flight schedules.”

In response to the incident, the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has ordered an immediate and thorough inspection of the Kano airport runway.

Efforts to reach officials from the Nigeria Safety Investigation Bureau for comment were unsuccessful.
