An explosion has struck the Trans-Niger Pipeline (TNP) at Bodo, Gokana Local Government Area of Rivers State, sparking a fire that continues to burn.
The incident occurred late Monday night near the Bodo-Bonny Road, which is currently under construction. The cause of the explosion remains unknown.
It is unclear whether the blast resulted from human interference, especially amid recent threats by militant groups targeting oil installations. These threats follow the Federal Government’s withholding of Rivers State’s allocation due to the ongoing political crisis.
The TNP, a key oil transport pipeline, supplies crude oil to the Bonny export terminal in Rivers State. The explosion has raised concerns over potential environmental damage and disruptions to oil exports.
As of press time, government authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
