Boost for Healthcare: NCC Donates Vital Medical Equipment to Ondo Hospital

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has extended its corporate social responsibility to the healthcare sector with the donation of essential medical equipment to a leading hospital in Ondo State, aiming to improve service delivery and patient care.

The donation was made on Tuesday at the State Specialist Hospital in Akure, where representatives of the NCC handed over the equipment to hospital management in a brief but symbolic ceremony attended by government officials and health workers.

The items donated include modern diagnostic tools, patient monitoring devices, hospital beds, and other critical supplies designed to enhance emergency response and general medical care.

Speaking at the event, NCC Director of Public Affairs, Dr. Chinasa Nwaneri, said the initiative is part of the Commission’s efforts to support public institutions in underserved communities. “While our core mandate is telecom regulation, we recognize that connectivity also means contributing to the well-being of the people. A healthy population drives digital growth,” she said.

Officials at the hospital expressed deep appreciation for the gesture, describing it as timely and impactful. Dr. Bamidele Ogundipe, the hospital’s chief medical director, noted that the equipment would help address longstanding resource gaps and improve the quality of care.

“This intervention by the NCC will go a long way in enhancing our capacity, especially in emergency and maternal health services,” Dr. Ogundipe stated.

Ondo State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Banji Akinrinlola, who witnessed the handover, commended the NCC’s initiative and called on other federal agencies and private sector players to emulate the gesture.

The move comes amid ongoing calls for stronger partnerships between government institutions and regulatory bodies to bridge infrastructural gaps in Nigeria’s public health system.
