Remi Tinubu Donates ₦1 Billion to Plateau Attack Victims, Says Gesture Driven by Compassion, Not Politics

Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has donated ₦1 billion to victims of recent attacks in Plateau State, describing the gesture as an expression of empathy and national unity — not a political statement.

The donation, made through the Renewed Hope Initiative, was announced during her visit to Jos on Tuesday, where she met with displaced families, religious leaders, and state officials. The humanitarian crisis in Plateau has worsened following a series of brutal attacks in Bokkos and Mangu local government areas, which left dozens dead and thousands displaced.

“This is not about politics. It is about love — love for humanity, for the grieving, and for our brothers and sisters who need healing,” the First Lady said at the event, drawing applause from community members.

Support for Rebuilding and Rehabilitation

According to Mrs. Tinubu, the ₦1 billion fund will be channeled into rebuilding homes, supporting widows and orphans, and providing healthcare and educational assistance to those affected by the violence. She urged local and federal agencies to work together in delivering the aid transparently and promptly.

“We must stand together as a nation to show that evil will not triumph. The victims need more than sympathy — they need support that restores their dignity,” she added.

Governor and Community Leaders React

Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang commended the First Lady’s intervention, calling it the largest single private donation received so far in response to the crisis.

“This is a significant demonstration of leadership and compassion. We thank the First Lady for standing with the people of Plateau in their darkest hour,” Mutfwang said.

Traditional and religious leaders across the state also praised the initiative, urging other well-meaning Nigerians to follow suit in supporting peace and recovery efforts.

National and Humanitarian Context

The renewed violence in Plateau — part of a long-running cycle of communal clashes and reprisal attacks — has drawn national concern, with civil society groups calling for deeper security sector reform and conflict resolution strategies.

Mrs. Tinubu’s visit, the second by a presidential figure to the region in recent months, is seen as both symbolic and strategic, aimed at reinforcing the federal government’s commitment to addressing the humanitarian fallout.

The First Lady concluded her visit with a prayer session and promised ongoing support through the Renewed Hope Initiative.
