Kano, Nigeria – The Kano State Police Command has detained 11 students from Government Boarding Secondary School, Bichi, following the tragic murders of two schoolboys late on Monday night. The arrests were confirmed by SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa in a statement issued Thursday
The victims, Hamza Idris Tofawa and Umar Yusuf Dungurawa, were allegedly beaten to death by their peers using homemade metal rods locally known as “Gwale‑Gwale” . The suspected assailants are currently undergoing interrogation to determine the exact extent of their involvement .
State Education Commissioner, Dr. Ali Haruna Makoda, has ordered an urgent and transparent investigation into the appalling incident. His directive was relayed by Permanent Secretary Bashir Bappa Mohammad during their visit to the school on Wednesday .
The cause of the attack remains uncertain, though some reports suggest bullying, cultism, or accusations of misconduct may have sparked violence among the students . Authorities have pledged to prosecute those found culpable once investigations conclude .
