Tragedy on Igan Road: Speeding Camry Fatally Strikes Motorbike Passenger in Ogun

LAGOS, Nigeria – A fatal collision occurred early Wednesday morning on Igan Road, Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, when a speeding Toyota Camry collided head-on with a motorcycle, killing the female passenger and injuring the bikeman.

The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE) confirmed the incident. The Camry, bearing plate JJJ 168 GY, reportedly lost control and struck the motorcycle (plate KNN 873 ZY) in a reckless manoeuvre. The rider sustained injuries and has been taken to hospital; the Camry driver has not yet been apprehended

TRACE spokesperson Babatunde Akinbiyi told PUNCH Metro that operatives quickly evacuated the vehicles and cordoned off the area for investigation. Traffic was briefly disrupted but has since resumed

Local residents decried rising incidents of speeding along the route. “Drivers treat this road like a racetrack,” said one eyewitness. Community representatives are calling on state authorities to install speed bumps and increase surveillance to curb rogue driving behaviour.

This incident follows similar accidents in the state in recent months, underscoring the persistent dangers of reckless driving and insufficient road safety measures.
