Arokodare Opens Season Account as Genk Fall to Standard Liege

Super Eagles striker Tolu Arokodare netted his first goal of the 2025/26 Belgian Jupiler League season, but it proved a mere consolation as Genk fell 2-1 away to Standard Liege on Sunday.

The 24-year-old, linked with summer moves to AC Milan, Atalanta, and Fulham, started from the bench before replacing Jarne Steuckers in the 67th minute. Just three minutes later, he made his mark, slotting home in the 70th to reduce the deficit.

Despite his efforts, Genk could not avoid their second defeat in three matches, leaving them 14th on the table with only one point. The team has managed three goals but conceded five, holding a goal difference of minus two.

Arokodare was last season’s top scorer with 21 goals across the league campaign and play-offs, firing Genk to a UEFA Europa League berth. He will be aiming to add to his tally when they face Oud-Heverlee Leuven away on Friday, August 15.
