
The Nasarawa State Police Command has arrested five men suspected of involvement in armed robbery and kidnapping in Doma Local Government Area.
Police spokesperson Ramhan Nansel said in a statement on Sunday that officers from the Doma Division apprehended the suspects Darda’u Shehu, Yunusa Malami Hashimu, Musa Abubakar, Ibrahim Musa and Mohammed Musa at a criminal hideout in Yelwa Ediya.
The men allegedly confessed to abducting a serving councillor on May 26, stealing his two mobile phones valued at N270,000. They are also accused of mounting a roadblock along the Doma–Yelwa Road on July 19, where they attacked another victim, stole his Bajaj motorcycle and sold it for N970,000. About N100,000 in proceeds from the sale was recovered.
In a separate operation, police in Keana Division arrested 20-year-old herder Suleman Mohammadu in Gidan Zaki Hassan, Kuduku, after residents reported that armed herders had opened fire when confronted for grazing on farmlands. Officers recovered an AK-47 magazine loaded with six live rounds.
State Commissioner of Police Shettima Mohammed ordered the transfer of all suspects to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and prosecution, reiterating the command’s commitment to public safety.
