
President Bola Tinubu has approved the reconstitution of the Governing Council and Board of Trustees of the Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYPREP).
In a statement on Monday, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said the Minister of Environment will serve as chairman of the council.
Other members of the council include Loanyie Barituka Victor, representing environmental NGOs; Bright Onyebuchi Jacob and Henry Obiabure, representing Niger Delta communities; Prof. Barinedum Michael Nwibere and Barrister Baride Abdul Gwezia, representing the Ogoni community; and Gideon Onyebuwa Melfor and Dr Ibikunle Omotehinse, representing the nine oil-producing states.
Alternate members for Ogoniland are Rev. Canon Dr Abraham Olungwe, who was reappointed, and Engr. Maeba Power Ekpobari. Joseph Akedesuo and Beauty Warejuowei will serve as alternate members for the Niger Delta.
The president also reconstituted the HYPREP Board of Trustees, with Emmanuel Nwiika Deeyah reappointed as chairman. Fred Mbombo Igwe and Dr Fred Barivule Kpakol will represent Ogoni communities and stakeholders, Mrs Dorcas Amos will represent other Niger Delta communities, and Chief Jide Damazio, also reappointed, will represent NGOs focused on environmental issues.
