The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested popular Lagos socialite and nightclub owner, Mike Eze Nwalie Nwogu, widely known as Pretty Mike, alongside former Big Brother Naija housemate Tuoyo Ideh and over 100 guests during a midnight raid at Proxy Nightclub, Victoria Island, Lagos.
The agency, in a statement issued on Sunday by its Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, said operatives recovered several cartons of banned substances, including Loud (a potent strain of cannabis) and laughing gas, during the operation which took place in the early hours of Sunday, October 26.
According to the NDLEA, the operation followed credible intelligence suggesting that a drug-themed party was being hosted at the club. Officers reportedly infiltrated the venue around 11 p.m. on Saturday, before moving in on the gathering at about 3 a.m. on Sunday, in line with the agency’s standard operating procedures.
“In Lagos, NDLEA operatives in the early hours of Sunday, October 26, raided Proxy Nightclub at 7 Akin Adesola Street, Victoria Island, where a drug party was going on,” the statement read. “Over 100 suspects, including the owner of the club, Mike Eze Nwalie Nwogu, alias Pretty Mike, were arrested and taken into custody for screening. Cartons of illicit substances, including Loud and laughing gas, were recovered from suspects at the party and the club’s store.”
Confirming his arrest via Instagram, Tuoyo Ideh expressed frustration over what he described as “an unwarranted humiliation.”
“I have been arrested by the NDLEA from a nightclub in Lagos for basically doing nothing at all,” he wrote. “They made us sit down like criminals. Over 150 people were taken to the NDLEA headquarters in Ikoyi. We didn’t commit any crime they came in with guns and told everyone to lie down.”
Efforts by PUNCH Online to reach Pretty Mike for comment proved unsuccessful, as calls and messages sent to his mobile line went unanswered at the time of filing this report.
Meanwhile, the NDLEA also announced a series of major drug interceptions across the country, including the seizure of 70 parcels of cocaine concealed in cocoa butter body cream containers bound for London at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos. The cocaine, weighing 3.6 kilograms, was discovered on October 14 during a cargo inspection.
The agency said a cargo agent, Lawal Mustapha Olakunle, was initially arrested, leading to the subsequent arrest of two other suspects Ogunmuyide Taiwo Deborah, a female healthcare worker, and Mutiu Adebayo Adebiyi, the CEO of a travel agency.
In Enugu, NDLEA operatives at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport apprehended a 35-year-old Lesotho national, Lemena Mark, attempting to smuggle 103.59 grams of methamphetamine concealed in herbal tea packs bound for the Philippines.
The agency further reported multiple seizures and arrests across Kwara, Taraba, Kogi, Nasarawa, Abia, Ondo, Kaduna, and Zamfara States, including tramadol, cannabis (skunk), and “skuchies” a cocktail of drugs mixed with blackcurrant drink.
NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd.), commended the operatives involved in the nationwide operations, urging them to sustain the momentum in the ongoing War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaign.
“The balanced approach of the agency’s drug control strategy must continue. We are committed to dismantling drug syndicates and protecting communities from the menace of substance abuse,” Marwa said.
The latest development underscores the NDLEA’s intensified clampdown on drug trafficking and recreational drug use within Nigeria’s entertainment and nightlife scenes.
