NACP 2025 National Conference Holds in Abuja. Focusing on The Role of Clinical Psychologists in National Well-Being

All roads lead to Sandralia Hotel, 1 Solomon Lar Road, Jabi, Abuja, as Clinical Psychologists from across Nigeria and the Diaspora converge physically and virtually for the 2025 National Conference of the Nigerian Association of Clinical Psychologists (NACP). The two-day event which has been scheduled to hold on Friday 31st October and Saturday 1st November 2025, centers on the timely theme: “Mental Health Emergency in Nigeria: The Role of Clinical Psychologists.”
At a time when the nation continues to grapple with the pressures of insecurity, economic hardship, unemployment, family instability, and post-pandemic stress, this year’s conference could not have come at a better time. It aims to shine a national spotlight on mental health, and to reemphasize the vital role of Clinical Psychologists in guiding individuals, families, and communities find healing and balance.
The conference preceeded by two days of Continuing Education Training (CET) sessions, gave practitioners an opportunity to update their knowledge in line with global best practices, discuss challenges faced in the field, and explore innovative, evidence-based solutions to Nigeria’s mental health challenges.
The Distinguished Guest of Honour for the 2025 National Conference is Senator Uba Sani, Executive Governor of Kaduna State, whose administration has shown strong commitment to human development and community well-being. The Chairperson of the Occasion is AIG Dr. Nkechi Eze, Force Medical Director, Nigeria Police Force Headquarters, a respected leader in health advocacy within the security community.
The Chief Host is Professor Gboyega Emmanuel Abikoye, President of the NACP, while the Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee is Associate Professor David Igbokwe.
In a statement from the Association, the Acting National Publicity Secretary, Dr. Pamela Arnold Udoka emphasized that “mental health is not a luxury, it is a necessity. Continuing, she notes that Nigerians need to come to the awareness that psychological well-being is as important as physical well-being, and therefore should prioritise the need to engaging Licensed Clinical Psychologists so as to receive proper assessment, diagnosis, and treatment or management of any psychological or mental health issues they might be struggling with.”
The conference underscores the message that Clinical Psychologists are not only healers of the mind but essential partners in national development. By helping citizens with, but not limited to developing coping skills, overcome various forms of addiction, depression, sleep disorders, anxiety disorders, recover from trauma, manage stress, resolve workplace and relational conflicts, rebuild resilience, they play a vital role in creating a stronger, healthier, and more productive Nigeria.
As the conversations unfold in Abuja, the NACP invites media professionals and the general public to follow the proceedings closely. This is due to the fact that, understanding mental health and achieving mental stability is a major step towards national recovery.
