Anambra Police Disrupt Cult Ritual, Nab Six in Midnight Raid

Police operatives in Anambra State have disrupted an alleged cult initiation ceremony, arresting six individuals in a late-night operation aimed at curbing rising cult-related violence in the region.

The operation, carried out by the Anti-Cultism Squad of the Anambra State Police Command, took place in the outskirts of Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area, following a tip-off from community members.

According to the state police spokesperson, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, officers stormed the hideout where the suspects were allegedly initiating new members into a cult group known for violent activities and territorial control.

“Our operatives acted swiftly based on credible intelligence and were able to apprehend six individuals actively participating in the illegal initiation process,” Ikenga said in a statement. “Items recovered from the scene include drums, red cloths, charms, and other cult paraphernalia.”

He added that the suspects are currently undergoing interrogation and will be charged to court upon completion of investigations. Efforts are ongoing to track other fleeing members of the group.

Residents have applauded the police for their prompt intervention, noting that cult-related clashes have caused fear and unrest in many parts of the state.

Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Aderemi Adeoye, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to eradicating cultism, warning that the police will not tolerate any group threatening public peace and security.

“This is a clear message to cultists and their sponsors: we are coming for you,” he said.

The raid is part of a broader security crackdown launched in response to rising reports of cult violence, particularly among youth populations in urban and semi-urban areas of the state.
