PCN Shuts Down 443 Medicine Outlets in Taraba Over Regulatory Breaches

The Pharmacists Council of Nigeria (PCN) has sealed 443 pharmacies and patent medicine stores across Taraba State for operating in violation of regulatory standards.

The enforcement exercise, carried out during a week-long inspection, targeted facilities operating without valid licenses, employing unqualified personnel, or stocking and dispensing controlled medicines illegally.

Addressing journalists in Jalingo, PCN Director of Enforcement, Pharm. Stephen Esumobi, said the action was part of the Council’s ongoing efforts to sanitize pharmaceutical practice and protect public health.

“Out of 584 premises visited, 443 were sealed due to various infractions, including poor documentation, unauthorized sale of prescription drugs, and unhygienic environments,” Esumobi stated.

He added that the council also issued compliance directives to several outlets, urging them to meet minimum operational requirements before reopening.

The PCN urged residents to purchase medicines only from licensed and accredited facilities, warning that unregulated drug distribution poses serious health risks.

The clampdown highlights the Council’s renewed commitment to curbing the proliferation of substandard drug outlets across Nigeria.
