Anambra Police Bust Suspected Drug Hideout, Nab Six in Targeted Operation

The Anambra State Police Command has arrested six individuals during a coordinated raid on a suspected drug den in the state, intensifying efforts to clamp down on illicit drug activities in the region.

The operation, which was carried out in the early hours of Wednesday following credible intelligence, targeted a hideout believed to be a distribution point for hard drugs in the commercial town of Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, the suspects were apprehended with various quantities of illegal substances suspected to be cocaine, methamphetamine, and cannabis.

“Our operatives acted on actionable intelligence, stormed the location, and successfully arrested six suspects who are currently assisting with investigations,” Ikenga said in a statement. “We recovered exhibits including narcotics, weighing scales, and cash believed to be proceeds from drug sales.”

He added that the raid is part of a broader initiative by the state command to dismantle drug trafficking networks and reduce the rising influence of substance abuse among youths in Anambra.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye, commended the tactical unit involved and reiterated the command’s zero-tolerance policy toward drug-related crimes.

“We will continue to pursue and prosecute those who threaten the safety and moral fabric of our communities through drug peddling and abuse,” he affirmed.

The suspects are expected to be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations, while police say more operations are underway across the state.

Local residents applauded the raid, calling on security agencies to sustain the momentum and extend similar operations to other suspected hotspots.
