The Faculty of Technology at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, is set to host a distinguished lineup of guests, including a senior adviser from the African Development Bank (AfDB) and the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, as it marks a milestone anniversary in engineering education.
The event, scheduled to hold in July, is part of activities commemorating the faculty’s decades-long contribution to science, innovation, and national development. It will feature academic symposia, exhibitions, and the unveiling of legacy projects by alumni and stakeholders.
According to the organizing committee, the AfDB’s chief adviser on infrastructure and industrial development, Dr. Olufunke Olayemi, will deliver the keynote address, focusing on “Engineering Africa’s Future: Innovation, Policy, and Human Capital.”
“We are honored to host such esteemed personalities who reflect both the tradition and the forward-looking spirit of our faculty,” said Prof. Kehinde Olayinka, Dean of the Faculty of Technology. “Their presence underscores the national and continental relevance of engineering education in today’s economy.”
The Ooni of Ife, who is also a strong advocate for youth empowerment and technology-driven development, will serve as royal father of the day and is expected to deliver a goodwill message to the gathering.
Notable alumni from across the country and the diaspora will also attend, showcasing projects that demonstrate the faculty’s impact on industry, research, and community development.
Obafemi Awolowo University, renowned for its academic rigor and historic legacy, has long been a hub for engineering and technological advancement in Nigeria and West Africa.
The anniversary celebration is expected to catalyze new partnerships between academia, industry, and development institutions.
