Governor Charles Chukwuma Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has vehemently condemned the brutal killing of 13 residents of Ebonyi in Anambra State, describing the act as barbaric and inhuman. He has demanded a swift and thorough investigation to bring the perpetrators to justice.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Governor Nwifuru expressed profound sadness over the loss of innocent lives and called on the federal and state security agencies to prioritize the investigation, stressing that such acts of violence undermine peace and security in the region.
“This gruesome attack on our people is unacceptable and barbaric,” Nwifuru said. “We demand a thorough, transparent, and immediate investigation to ensure that those responsible are apprehended and punished according to the law.”
The victims, reportedly residents of Ebonyi State engaged in legitimate business activities in Anambra, were allegedly attacked in a violent incident whose details remain unclear as authorities scramble to establish the facts.
Governor Nwifuru also appealed to security agencies to enhance protection for citizens traveling or conducting business across states, emphasizing the need for collaboration among regional authorities to curb rising insecurity.
The Anambra State Government has yet to issue an official response, but sources indicate that security operatives are intensifying efforts to investigate the killings.
Community leaders and civil society organizations have joined calls for justice, urging authorities to prevent such tragic events from recurring.
