Benue State Governor Pledges to Implement N70,000 Minimum Wage

Benue State Governor, Rev Fr Hyacinth Alia, has announced that his administration is prepared to pay a minimum wage of N70,000 to state workers. Speaking with journalists in Makurdi, Governor Alia emphasized that his administration has successfully blocked financial leakages and put measures in place to ensure smooth operations.

“Despite the harsh economy and stagnation, our plans and measures are making things function,” the governor stated. “Our internally generated revenue has increased, and we are now focused on closing all loopholes to maximize our financial resources, including paying salaries.”

Governor Alia affirmed his commitment to align with the Federal Government’s decisions regarding the minimum wage. “With all our purpose and intent, we should be able to adhere to the Federal Government’s agreed minimum wage. Without a dedicated workforce, any government lacks the foundation for effective governance. Therefore, we are committed to paying our civil servants what is approved by the Federal Government and organized labor.”

This announcement comes amid ongoing efforts to improve the state’s financial management and ensure the welfare of its workers.
