Lagos Boxing Hall of Fame Revives Monthly Tournament with Explosive Bouts at Agege Stadium

Amateur boxing is set to take centre stage once again as the Lagos Boxing Hall of Fame (LBHF) resumes its revitalised monthly boxing series on October 25 at the Agege Stadium, featuring 10 thrilling bouts across male and female categories.

In the men’s 50kg category, Bolarinwa Michael of Next Page Club, Mushin, will square off against Daramola Daniel of Brightest Club, Oto Awori. The 55kg division will see Quadri Oyebamiji clash with Lateef Qudus, while Innocent Prosper of Bariga battles Samuel Talabi of Abule Egba in the 60kg contest.

Other notable pairings include Muftau Abdullahi versus Adeyemi Adebayo and Abdullahi Robiu against Ibrahim Olayiwola, both in the 63kg category.

In the women’s 48kg division, Sofia Yakubu of Oshodi will face Nurat Sulimon of Badagry, while a special exhibition match in the 31kg class will feature Eniola Owolabi of Ojokoro against Amira Aremu of Ajegunle.

The heavier divisions promise equally intense action: Olamilekan Badiru of Ikorodu West takes on Sharafadeen Fawas of Ajegunle Apapa in the 70kg category, while Hamed Adegoke of Kosofe meets Dolapo Ajayi of Ifako-Ijaiye in the 75kg bout.

The day’s final showdown will feature Segun Aboseh of Badagry against Michael Olomitutu of Odi-Olowo in a high-stakes 86kg clash.

With the Governor’s Belt Championship approaching, the event signals the start of an exciting journey for boxers hoping to earn their place in the prestigious year-end tournament.

LBHF Director, David Mohammed, said the return of the monthly series aims to revitalise grassroots boxing across Lagos.

“We’re introducing innovation into the tournament. For the next three months, we’ll host monthly editions culminating in the Governor’s Belt Championship in December,” Mohammed said. “This will help us identify talents from all parts of Lagos who deserve recognition and potential selection for the state team.”

He added that the initiative will highlight the five administrative divisions of Lagos Island, Badagry, Ikorodu, Mainland, and Epe as well as local councils, ensuring a more inclusive and dynamic competition.

Mohammed also revealed that from 2026, LBHF will adopt a new structure in line with the IBILE and Local Government framework, allowing each division to host its own monthly shows, with champions from each area advancing to compete for the overall Lagos title.

Founded in 2010 by former amateur boxing champion and current Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, the Lagos Boxing Hall of Fame has, for over 15 years, served as a breeding ground for young boxers who have gone on to excel at national and international levels.

“We are proud of our legacy,” Mohammed said. “The goal is to make Lagos the heartbeat of amateur boxing in Nigeria once again.”
