Court Grants Bail to Social Media Critic VeryDarkMan

The Chief Magistrate Court in Abuja has granted bail of N2 million to social media influencer Martins Vincent Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan, who was detained for the unauthorized use of a police uniform.

VeryDarkMan appeared in Court 1, Chief Magistrate Court, Wuse Zone 6, on Friday, facing charges related to the incident. His attorney, Deji Ayedanju, outlined the bail conditions set by the court, which include providing two sureties who must deposit their international passports and present valid means of identification.

According to Ayedanju, the court has mandated that the sureties must also submit utility bills and have their addresses verified by the prosecutor. Additionally, VeryDarkMan is required to submit an affidavit affirming his commitment to be available throughout the trial.

“The bail is set at two million naira, with two sureties in like terms. They must reside within the court’s jurisdiction, specifically in the Abuja municipal area,” Ayedanju explained.

The court’s ruling follows VeryDarkMan’s recent detention by police after he posted a public apology for using a police uniform in a viral video, where he referred to himself as a Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) in an online division.

After being interrogated by police on Wednesday for alleged impersonation, he expressed a lack of awareness regarding the requirement for police permission to wear such uniforms. He also advised other content creators to seek proper clearance from law enforcement before using similar attire in their videos.
