The Senatorial candidate of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), Sulaiman Abdurrahman Kawu Sumaila has raised alarm over alleged plan by the All Progressive Congress (APC) to hire thugs to attack the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office that is used as Collation Center for the Senatorial election in the Kano South.

Sumaila said the planned attack is similar to the attack that occurred this morning in Takai Local Government Area, where some armed thugs were hired to disrupt collation of the results.

Daily Focus gathered that INEC office in Takai LGA was set ablaze by some unknown thugs at the early hours of Sunday when collation was ongoing, which further left some dead while other got injured.

However, addressing newsmen at the NUJ Press Center in Kano, Kawu Sumaila alleged that one of his supporters was shoot with gun while one other was injured by the thugs and that about ten of the thugs were arrested with guns.

“I am here to raise alarm and call the attention of all the stakeholders, especially INEC and security operatives that there is another plan by the opposition to attack the central collation Center in Rano to disrupt activities in the place as they did in Takai.

“I am specifically accusing my opponent from APC, Senator Kabiru Gaya and some state government officials. After the first attack in Takai, they are now planning to move to Rano to attack our people and disrupt the collation. We have done our part, it now remains for the stakeholders to take action proactively,” he said.

According to Kawu Sumaila, he had earlier informed the security about the planned attack to Takai but no action was taken, calling on them to address the problem as a matter of urgency.

“The plan is deliberate because they are losing in every part of the region, we don’t know what they are planning. But all we know is they don’t want the collation to go peacefully.”

Efforts to get reaction from the APC prove abortive as the Secretary General of the state Chapter of the party, Ibrahim Zakari Sarina could not be reached as at the filing this report.

Spokesman of the police command in Kano, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa confirmed the incident in Takai and said they are working to ensure peaceful collation of the election results in the entire state.
