The Kano State chapter of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has rejected the violence-marred supplementary elections and called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to cancel the exercise.
Addressing newsmen in Kano on Saturday, acting Chairman of the party, Rabi’u Suleman Bichi alleged that the rerun election was marred by widespread violence, irregularities and thuggery.
Bichi also alleged that reports at the PDP’s disposal revealed that some of the party’s agents had been killed, vehicles burnt and properties destroyed in Doguwa, Nassarawa, Minjibir, Dala and Tudun Wada Local Government areas
According to him, PDP on Friday received reports of importation of thugs from neighboring Kano by All Progressives Congress (APC) with the aim of intimidating eligible voters to pave way for the ruling party to rig.
Bichi also revealed that the party swiftly notified the security agencies over the development, adding that he personally wrote a letter to notify the state Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) Professor Riskuwa Shehu of the impending mayhem in the state.
Bichi also alleged that the party had the record where security agents gave cover to the thugs to unleash mayhem on the PDP members at various polling units.
“Some have sustained various degrees of injuries, including the elected member representing Gwale local government at Gulu Ward in Rimin Gado, Bichi, Kibiya, Gaya local governments and other areas.
“These with many other infractions made us to completely lose faith in the whole exercise and therefore call on INEC to cancel this election,” he said
Reacting to the allegation, the Kano State APC chairman, Abdullahi Abbas expressed displeasure over the PDP’s call to cancel the election that is ongoing.
According to him, all the allegations made by the PDP were unfounded and uncalled for, adding that the party’s comments showed the sign of defeat in them.
He called on INEC to ensure the conclusion of the election and collation of the result, calling on the people of the state to be calm.
