As the controversy on diverted funds meant for the payment of the country’s male and female basketball teams’ allowances rears its head again. President of the Nigeria Basketball Federation, Mallam Musa Kida has said he is yet to receive any further refund from the sports ministry after bailing the nation from international embarrassment.

Musa Kida replies accusations that he converted NBBF board money to his personal account in an exclusive interview with Apexmedia.com

“There is no way the sports ministry can pay NBBF if the basketball Federation does not have an account.” We have an account with CBN so no funds go into my personal account”.

Kida also gives details on donations he made when the NBBF board and the sports ministry requested for his support in funding the national teams.

“If you can recall, the board of the NBBF and the sports ministry prevailed on me to use my personal money to sort out the national teams when they were in dire need and so I obliged and till now, I have not been fully refunded”.

“I have still not been refunded the money I spent on the team in 2017, I have also not collected the one they won in Cameroun when you were fighting me and happy to propagate the video of those ladies (he laughed)”.

“They have not given me anything to prepare the team for the Olympics. I am sure you were proud that our team defeated the Americans. One dollar I have not gotten from that.

Kida is also hopeful monetary issues will not hinder D’Tigers’ qualification for the 2023 FIBA world cup qualification.

“The ministry was able to offset part of the expenses when we went to Kigali, yes they gave me some money but not completely”.

“The one in Abidjan where we went for the last qualifying window, they have not paid me one kobo, I can’t continue like this”.

With five slots up for grabs from the African qualifiers to the 2023 FIBA World Cup, Nigeria will play against Cote d’Ivoire, Guinea and Angola.
