The Sickle Cell Community, a Kano-based group campaigning for the welfare of people living with sickle cell disorder in Nigeria has congratulated President Muhammadu Buhari and newly elected and returning governors over their inauguration into office.
A statement by the spokesman of the group, Farouk Saleh Gagarawa on Friday, called on the president and governors to recognize the monumental health challenges of sickle cell patients with a view to helping them.
“The community calls on these leaders to take into recognition the challenges of Sickle Cell Disease and the persons living with it.
“The government should give more attention in terms of awareness, budgetary allocation and releases, health insurance friendly schemes, provision of sickle cell well equipped units in hospitals across the nation to reduce the sickle cell burden,” the statement read.
“The community wishes them well as they embark on this four year journey towards making Nigeria great again,” it added.
