Increase in Electricity tariff appropriate, will not affect masses– KEDCO

The Kano, Katsina and Jigawa states Electricity Distribution Company, KEDCO, has said that the recent increase in the electricity tariff is appropriate and will not affect the masses in the country.

Speaking to Freedom Radio on Tuesday in a program, Barka Da Hansti the head of Marketing Strategy and Planning of the company, Ahmad Sunusi said the new system will provide more electricity to their consumers and request for their cooperation.

He said the system has classified their consumers into five units which everyone has to select and make payment on the basis of the choice plan.

“The New system of the distribution is an appropriate one and will guarantee constant supply of electricity for many hours more than the previous one.

“I assure you that it will not affect the masses and will provide them with adequate electricity supply, depending on the plan they choose to be”, he said.

Sunusi added that people must cooperate with the new system and also pay money regularly in order to achieve constant power supply in the states.

Recalled that the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has urged the Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) to take a decisive action on the plan by DISCOs to hike electricity tariff in the country.

Ayuba Wabba, the NLC president, on Tuesday in Abuja made the call in a statement titled: “Increase in Electricity Tariff by Abuja DISCOs – a taunting of the will of the Nigerian people gone too far”.
