The Kano State Censorship Board has banned Kannywood producers from making films depicting the killing of spouses.
Executive Director of the Board, Isma’il Na’abba Afakallah revealed this in a statement released on Wednesday, according to Kano Today.
The statement signed by the Board’s spokesperson Ibrahim Adamu Kofar Na’isa accused Kannywood filmmakers of introducing a new trend in the industry showing husbands killing their wives and vice versa
Afakallah reminded filmmakers that movies are meant to showcase excellent moral, cultural, traditional and religious values of the society, according to the statement.
He added that the Board has completed arrangements to verify all stakeholders in the Kannywood industry.
The rise of domestic violence in Kano state is raising concern as many experts blame the media as partly responsible for the ugly trend.
