The management of the Kano Road and Traffic Agency (KAROTA) says it is investigating a viral video clip showing personnel of the agency physically assaulting a suspected traffic offender.
The clip shows one of the KAROTA personnel tightly gripping the neck of a suspected traffic offender in an attempt to choke him in a car while the victim struggled to break free.
Other officials of the agency could be heard in the background raining obscenities at the victim as he kept asking his assailant to release him.
It was unclear what offense the motorist committed but the incident was said to have occurred along Airport road in the city.
Reacting to the disturbing footage, Managing Director of the Agency, Baffa Babba Dan-Agundi promised to penalize the operatives responsible for the act.
In a statement on Wednesday by KAROTA’s spokesperson Nabulusi Abubakar Kofar Na’isa, the agency said it has launched a probe into the incident with a view to punish the offenders.
Mr Dan-Agundi also urged the agency’s personnel to conduct their duty responsibly without using force against offenders.
He also pleaded with members of the public to always abide by traffic regulations.
Mr Dan-Agundi himself was recently accused of physically assaulting a tricycle operator Mujitapha Isa, prompting the victim to seek redress in court.
Mr Isa, a tricycle rider, through his lawyer, Barr. Abba Hikima, had accused the KAROTA boss of of unlawful violence, intentional assault, causing grievous bodily harm, criminal abuse of authority and offering bribe
A Chief Magistrate Court 8 had asked the state’s police command to investigate Mr Dan-Agundi.
