Minister task Information Officers to step up, embrace technology

The Minister of state for works and housing, Umar Ibrahim El-Yakub has tasks Information Officers to step up and embrace technological advancements in moving their activities while ensuring timely and effective delivery of information to the public.

The Minister, made the call at a two day workshop for Information Officers organised by the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Information Chapel, Kano.

He said, the new trends have provided avenues for the image makers to discharge their responsibilities, taking into account the development of technology for effectiveness.

“You have to ensure efficient management of not only information but resources in delivering on key mandates of government and the private sector in ensuring that people are kept abreast with information in real time.

“I believe technology has enabled that which obviously is why you have live coverage and streaming of events using platforms that you relate and identify with as people in the fourth estate of the realm and certainly sensitising your members especially at this critical time where we are approaching elections in few weeks is very important.”

He added that while not only information dissemination will be using technology, but also the fact that even the election is driven on technology.

Earlier, the Minister of Defence, Major General Bashir Salihi Magashi who was represented by his Special Assistant, General Ahmed Tijjani Jibrin also called on the participants to be agents in the fight against misinformation and fake news being critical stakeholders in that regard for the promotion and actualisation of sane society.
