Police lost 16 officers in Thursday’s fight with bandits

The Zamfara State police are saying they have lost 16 officers after a fight with armed bandits in Birnin Magaji local government area of the state last Thursday.

They however, said 20 of the missing personnel have been rescued.

“In the search and rescue operation of the missing personnel after the last Thursday’s onslaught on armed bandits, 20 personnel were rescued while 16 were found dead,” a statement signed by the state command’s spokesman SP Muhammad Shehu said.

He said the Special Forces Personnel, Counter Terrorism Unit, Police Mobile Force, Federal SARS Personnel with three surveillance helicopters have strengthened Operations to rout the remnants of the armed bandits in the caves and mountain identified as their hideouts.

“The IGP is saddened with the death of the gallant officers whom he described as heroes of the Force; their demise is a great loss to Nigeria Police Force and our dear Nation, Nigeria. The supreme price they paid for the security and safety of the Country will not be in vain”, Shehu added.

Last Friday, the police had announced the killing of 104 armed bandits, destruction of 50 hideouts and recovery of 500 cattle and 79 sheep in an operations in Birnin Magaji local government area in the state.
