Police parade 96 suspected phone snatchers, drug dealers in Kano


– Recovers 150 weapons, 71 mobile phones

The Kano state police Command has paraded 96 suspected criminals arrested for various offenses including phone snatching, robbery, defrauding people and drug dealing within 12 days, across various parts of the state.

The state commissioner of police, CP Muhammed Usaini Gumel disclosed this to newsmen while parading the suspects at the command’s headquarters, Bompai.

He said the suspects were arrested in line with renewed vigor, determination and use of technical support and sustained operations of peace in the state.

According to the CP, the top among the crimes bedeviling the state is the phone snatching which has become a topic of discussion, saying that they are doing everything possible to address the menace.

“So far a total of 96 suspects were arrested for offenses ranging from drugs and substance abuse that form the motivating factor for violent crimes in the state such as mobile phones robbery, kidnapping, arm robbery, theft of motor vehicle and so on.

“Among the suspects arrested are 52 phone snatchers, 6 drug dealers, and 38 people for other major crimes,” he said.

He added that among the items recovered are 3 locally made guns, 4 motor vehicles, 2 tricycles, 6 motorcycles, power cable, plasma TV and so on.

He urged the general public to support their efforts of ensuring crime free state and also to have free swearing in ceremony of new government on May 29.

During the press conference, the CP also handed over 6 drug dealers to the state Command of the National Drugs Law and Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
