Salisu Hotoro, detained Kwankwassiya diehard, released from DSS custody

Salisu Yahaya Hotoro, a staunch ally of Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso’s kwankwassiya movement, who was arrested by operatives of the Department of State Services has been finally released.

Hotoro was arrested at his Kwanar Sabo residence in Hotoro area of Kano city by armed DSS personnel who stormed the social media activist’s home in three vehicles.

Hafizu Bichi, Mr Hotoro’s lawyer, confirmed the release to Daily Nigerian Tuesday evening.

Mr Hotoro has been a critic of the governor of Kano State governor Abdullahi Ganduje.

However, sources told DAILY NIGERIAN that he was arrested for allegedly casting aspersions on a former managing director of Nigerian Ports Authority, Aminu Dabo.

The former managing director of NPA drew the ire of the Kwankwasiyya supporters when he reportedly claimed that he “takes care” of Kwankwasiyya supporters before his defection to APC.

Commenting on Mr Hotoro’s arrest, Sanusi Dawakin-Tofa, spokesman for Kano State gubernatorial candidate of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Abba Yusuf, condemned “this intimidation on the opposition as an act of impunity from the enemies of democracy.”

According to him, Mr Hotoro’s arrest was a plot by Governor Abdullahi Ganduje and the All Progressives Congress, APC to launch onslaught on him and some Kwankwasiyya social media activists.

He, therefore, vowed that the intimidation would not deter the opposition from criticising President Muhammadu Buhari and Mr Ganduje over alleged injustice meted to them in the re-run election.
