We’ll continue with collation of Nasarawa results despite disruption–Kano INEC

The Resident Electoral commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Kano Professor Risqua Arab Shehu has said collation of results for Nasarawa local government council in the state would continue.

Addressing stakeholders on Monday, Professor Shehu said the Commission would continue the collation of  Nasarrawa local area results through their “primary source from the polling units.”

He said INEC would invite all political parties during the continuation of the collation at a later time to ensure “transparency, fair and just democracy.”

Shehu also expressed his dismay over the manner in which some hoodlums disrupted the collation of result at Nassarawa local government area, saying it was “undemocratic and unpatriotic.”

He urged the populace to remain calm as the situation is under control

DailyFocus recalls that the collation of Nasarawa results, which is the only one left after 43 local governments were declared was disrupted by the state Deputy Governor Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna who attacked the collation centre and tore results sheets.

Gawuna was arrested by the police and held at Bompai police headquarters along with his accomplices Murtala Sulen Garo and Lamin Sani, Commissioner for local government and chairman of the council respectively.

Candidate of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Abba Yusuf is leading his main opponent Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of All Progressives Congress (APC) by 16,080 votes.

Nasawara is one of the local governments where the PDP defeated the APC with a very wide margin, according to investigation.
