The Senate has confirmed Dr. Matthew Olumide Adepoju as the new Director General of the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA). This confirmation followed the consideration of the report presented by the Senate Committee on Science and Technology, chaired by Senator Iya Aminu Abbas (PDP, Adamawa Central).

In his presentation, Senator Abbas outlined the thorough screening process conducted by the Committee after the Senate referred the nomination in accordance with parliamentary rules. The nominee, Dr. Adepoju, was forwarded to the Senate by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Senator Abbas highlighted Dr. Adepoju’s extensive qualifications and experience, which make him well-suited to lead NASRDA. He noted that there were no petitions or obstacles against Dr. Adepoju’s nomination, leading the Committee to recommend his approval without reservation.

“The Senate do receive and consider the report of the Committee on Science and Technology on the Confirmation of the nomination of Dr. Matthew Olumide Adepoju for appointment as the Director General, National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA),” Senator Abbas stated.

The Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, confirmed the nomination through a voice vote, officially appointing Dr. Adepoju as the Director General of NASRDA. In his remarks, Senator Akpabio commended Senator Abbas for his comprehensive report, acknowledging it as a significant contribution to the 10th Senate and the nation.

Dr. Adepoju’s appointment is expected to bring new leadership and vision to NASRDA, as the agency continues to advance Nigeria’s space research and development initiatives.
