Tinubu May Merge MDAs, Scrap Humanitarian Ministry

President Bola Tinubu is reportedly considering a major restructuring of government ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs), including the possible scrapping of the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs.

According to sources familiar with the matter, the President aims to streamline the federal government by merging or dissolving certain MDAs to enhance efficiency and reduce operational costs. The Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development, established in 2019 under former President Muhammadu Buhari, may be among the agencies affected.

This move comes as part of Tinubu’s broader strategy to restructure Nigeria’s public sector and improve governance. The plan could see overlapping responsibilities consolidated under a more efficient structure to tackle issues such as resource wastage and bureaucratic redundancy.

Government officials have yet to confirm specific details, but the President is expected to make formal announcements soon.

The restructuring is likely to spark public debate, particularly over the fate of the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, which has been instrumental in managing national emergency response efforts and social welfare programs.

The potential impact of the planned changes remains to be seen, as stakeholders in both government and civil society await further developments.
