AFIT Student, Success Ayagwa, Runs 64 Kilometers to Mark Nigeria’s 64th Independence Anniversary

Success Ayagwa, a 400-level student at the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT), Kaduna, showcased his exceptional athleticism by running an impressive 64 kilometers to commemorate Nigeria’s 64th Independence anniversary. The long-distance runner completed the challenging feat within the Nigerian Air Force Base in Kaduna, starting at 5 a.m. and finishing at 10 a.m. on Tuesday.

In an interview after the run, Success shared his motivation: “I wanted to demonstrate the love I have for my country, Nigeria, and my talent in long-distance running,” he said. Despite the grueling five-hour run, Success expressed that perseverance kept him going: “It was really tough running for five hours, but I knew with perseverance, I would achieve it.”

This marks the second consecutive year that Success has commemorated Nigeria’s independence with a remarkable run, having covered 63 kilometers last year. Success’s coach, Sergeant Wayo Emmanuel, Chief Instructor at AFIT’s Office of the Director of Sports, discovered his talent two years ago and has been guiding him ever since. Under Emmanuel’s mentorship, Success has made significant progress in his athletic career, including a notable 7th place finish at the Okpekpe road race last year.

Wing Commander Bassey Okon, the Director of Public Relations at AFIT, praised Success’s resilience and emphasized the importance of youth commitment in Nigeria’s future. He urged Nigerians to work together with the government to achieve greatness. “If youths develop this mindset, Nigeria will be great tomorrow,” he stated.

The Director added that Success’s achievement is a testament to AFIT’s commitment to nurturing exceptional talent, highlighting the leadership of Air Vice Marshal Saleh Rabe, who inspires students to excel in all aspects of life.
