Nigerian Police Moves to Reduce Crime Rate by 50%

The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has directed all commands of the Force to implement a comprehensive plan aimed at reducing the crime rate by 50% in 2025.

The directive was issued during the 5th Edition of the Annual Conference and Retreat for Senior Police Officers in Abeokuta on Monday.

Egbetokun emphasized that the conference theme, “Improving Nigeria’s Internal Security and Economic Prosperity Through Inclusive Policing,” aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s security vision and reinforces the commitment to tackling insecurity.

“The theme highlights the president’s plan to build a professionally competent, intelligence-driven police force capable of addressing emerging threats proactively,” he stated.

Strengthening Security Measures

According to Egbetokun, intensified operations and increased cooperation with the military and other security agencies have been yielding significant results in the fight against organized crime.

The Chairman of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Mr. Chiedu Ebie, urged the Federal Government to conduct periodic evaluations and vetting of police officers to ensure professionalism.

“A regular and comprehensive health check, including psychiatric assessments, must not be overlooked,” he stated.

Ebie also commended the police for their efforts in improving security and pledged that the NDDC would support the force in every capacity.

Implementation and Progress

A senior police officer disclosed that many commands have already begun implementing the directive, leading to an increase in prosecutions in the courts.

The initiative underscores the Nigerian Police Force’s commitment to making the country safer and fostering economic stability through enhanced security.
