Nigeria international Bright Osayi-Samuel has been handed a one-match suspension by the English Football Association after receiving his fifth yellow card of the season.
The 26-year-old right-back was booked just 12 minutes into his club’s 1–0 win over Preston North End on Tuesday night for a foul on striker Daniel Jebbison a booking that automatically triggered the suspension under FA disciplinary regulations, according to the English Football League (EFL) website.
His earlier cautions this season came in matches against Ipswich Town, Blackburn Rovers, Stoke City, and Swansea City.
Osayi-Samuel joined the Championship side on a free transfer during the summer after leaving Turkish giants Fenerbahçe, where he failed to agree on a contract extension. Since arriving in England, he has established himself as a regular starter, making nine appearances so far this season.
The defender was a late inclusion in Tuesday’s starting lineup at Deepdale, replacing Patrick Roberts, who sustained an injury during the warm-up. However, having only recently recovered from a minor injury himself, Osayi-Samuel was substituted early in the second half as a precaution to protect his fitness.
With the one-match ban now confirmed, the Nigerian will miss his club’s next Championship fixture as he serves his suspension.
