The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a weather advisory forecasting thunderstorms and moderate to heavy rainfall across several parts of the country from Monday through Wednesday.

In a statement released Sunday, NiMet warned that the adverse weather conditions could impact both urban and rural communities, potentially leading to flash floods, reduced visibility, and transportation disruptions.

According to the forecast, states in the northern region such as Sokoto, Kano, and Maiduguri will experience intermittent thunderstorms, while heavy rainfall is expected in parts of the central and southern states including Abuja, Enugu, and Port Harcourt.

“Residents in flood-prone areas are advised to exercise caution and take preventive measures to avoid water-related hazards,” the agency stated. “Motorists should also be alert to slick roads and reduced visibility, especially during peak rain hours.”

The agency encouraged local and state emergency management services to remain on standby and engage in proactive risk communication to minimize potential impacts.

NiMet further advised farmers to heed the warnings to avoid crop damage and to adjust their farming schedules in accordance with the forecasted rainfall patterns.

The advisory forms part of NiMet’s seasonal climate prediction efforts aimed at enhancing early warning systems and increasing resilience to climate-related risks across Nigeria.
